PM eBus Sewa Scheme under which Ministry
The scheme "PM eBus Sewa" is launched by the department of the Government of India, known as the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Launch Date
This scheme was launched by the central government on 16th August 2023. It will launch electric buses in cities for the convenience of the people.
Purpose
This scheme was introduced by the central government with a view in mind to providing clean and efficient transport for the urban people. It will help in redefining the city transport infrastructure, especially cities that do not have an organized bus service.
Details
Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, has mentioned that MoHUA (Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs) has launched this scheme in order to improve India's electric transport infrastructure. Further, he said that in the near future, 10,000 electric buses will be deployed in the cities.
Budget
An amount of Rs 20,000 crores will be spent on this by the Central government. The rest will be spent by other partners. It will help in providing a sustainable means of transport for the urban people.
Generally, this scheme will be first launched in cities that have a population of 3,00,000 or above, determined on the basis of 2011.
As electric buses will also help in reducing the carbon from the environment, thus resulting in providing a good environment for the citizens.
Guidelines - How will it be implemented?
It is a scheme of the Central Government, where central assistance will be provided for 10,000 electric buses on the basis of PPP (Public Private Partnership) model.
A total of 169 cities in different states are to be considered for it. The scheme will be continued to 2037. However, support will be provided for bus operations for 10 years.
The state governments should make a guarantee to pay rent on time to the company that provides buses to the state under this scheme. It is also the responsibility of the state to make sure to provide an uninterrupted electricity supply for e-buses.
The center's rent is to be paid directly. The bus price can range from Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.20 crore. It can provide a service of up to 300 km on a single charge. The bus will have 41 seats.
The buses will be provided to each state as soon as the criteria required for them are completed.
PM e-Bus Seva Scheme Cities List
The e-Buses are to be deployed in all different cities of India.
Maharashtra is to get 1,453 e-buses. Gujarat will receive 425 buses, while Bihar will get 400 buses. Odisha will get 350 buses and Punjab is set to receive 347 buses. Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana will get 200 buses each. The union territory Chandigarh will get 100 buses while Puducherry will get 75, and Meghalaya will get 50 buses.
Karnataka qualifies for 11 cities under it.
Recently, it has been noticed that 11 cities of Karnataka have qualified for the opportunity of coming under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. These cities are Ballari, Belagavi, Davangere, Dharwad, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, and Vijayapura.
Karnataka's state has demanded 110 buses together for Hubballi and Dharwad, 100 buses for each Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Mysuru and Mangaluru, 80 buses for Vijayapura, 55 buses for Bellari, 50 buses for each Davangere, Shivamogga and Tumakuru.
Kerala Cities under PM eBus Sewa
Kerala is set to receive around 950 buses for 10 cities. It will have 150 buses for both Kochi and Kozhikode, while Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kannur cities are to get 100 buses each. Cherthala, Kayamkulam, and Kottayam cities are going to receive 50 buses.
Four cities of Punjab to benefit from this scheme
These cities are Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala.
