Key Highlights

SRH lost its fourth match in a row in IPL 2025.

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s form is a major concern.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), last year’s IPL runner-up, is having a tough season in 2025. Their fans might want to forget it, the way it has gone for SRH.

With the fourth consecutive loss, cracks can be clearly seen in their top-order batting. Fans and analysts are now questioning whether SRH can bounce back in time to stay in playoff contention or not.

Due to its high-performance last year, especially by bat, fans were waiting for their clashes with other teams eagerly.

But in season 2025, things do not go well with the team. Out of 5 matches they have won only one.

Top Order Under Fire: Abhishek Sharma & Travis Head Out of Form

In IPL 2024, both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were considered the most explosive opening pair. Bout this time they have failed to deliver.

In the last four matches, they’ve failed to provide solid starts, often falling inside the powerplay. Their inability to convert starts into big scores is costing SRH momentum early in the innings.

Till now, SRH has played 5 matches and lost 4. Currently, they are at the bottom of the points table. Let's have a look at the performances of the top 3 in all 5 matches till now.

Match No. Opponent Abhishek Sharma Travis Head Ishan Kishan
1 RR 24 runs (11 balls) 67 runs (31 balls) 106* runs (47 balls)
2 LSG 6 runs (6 balls) 47 runs (28 balls) 0 runs (1 ball)
3 DC 1 run (1 ball) 22 runs (12 balls) 2 runs (5 balls)
4 KKR 2 runs (6 balls) 4 runs (2 balls) 2 runs (5 balls)
5 GT 18 runs (16 balls) 8 runs (5 balls) 17 runs (14 balls)

Thus, it is clearly seen that when the top order of SRH performs, SRH wins Match 1, and when they fail, the team loses. Match 1 is the only match won by SRH, and they have lost the last 4.

What’s Going Wrong for SRH?

1) Inconsistent starts:

Except for the first match which was against Rajasthan Royals SRH was not able to make big of powerplay. In the last 4 matches collapses are becoming a pattern.

2) No solid partnerships:

It has become clear for SRH that if the opening pair performs almost all players add a run to score. But if the top order fails, other players are not able to make any solid partnership.

3) Lack of aggression:

Both Sharma and Head seem tentative compared to their usual explosive selves. In the last match, they tried to play by taking some time, but it also did not go well with them.

Time for a Tactical Change?

SRH might need to rethink its strategy. Promoting a stabilizer in the top 3 or giving a break to one of the out-of-form openers could help reset the rhythm. With the tournament heating up, every match now feels like a must-win for Hyderabad.

What’s Next for SRH?

SRH’s next match will be crucial. Its next two matches are with the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians.

Will they finally turn the tide, or will this losing streak continue? Fans are hopeful, but the pressure is mounting on the top order to deliver—and fast.
